Fed’s Powell: Expect More of the Same

Oct. 03, 2018 — Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said forecasters inside and outside the Fed continue to expect the economy and employment to remain strong while inflation stays at roughly the agency’s 2 percent objective. Speaking in Boston, Powell said this historically rare pairing of steady, low inflation and very low unemployment reflects the extraordinary times that have followed the depths of the financial crisis a decade ago.

“Our ongoing policy of gradual interest rate normalization reflects our efforts to balance the inevitable risks that come with extraordinary times, so as to extend the current expansion, while maintaining maximum employment and low and stable inflation,” Powell said.
