Farm Bill Conferees Hold First Public Meeting

Sept. 06, 2018 — The farm bill conference committee conducted its first public meeting and agreed on the dire need to quickly reconcile the House and Senate versions by Sept. 30, when the current five-year bill expires. Several of the conferees, comprising 47 House and nine Senate members, cited new USDA forecasts that net farm income will decline by 13 percent this year—a point ICBA made to all conferees last week. Conferees adjourned without discussing next steps.
