Committee Votes for Uniformed Data Security Standards

Sept. 14, 2018 — Legislation to implement uniform consumer-notification standards across all Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act regulatory agencies passed out of the House Financial Services Committee. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer’s (R-Mo.) bill would also preempt state and local data-protection and consumer-notification standards. In a joint letter this week, ICBA and other groups said they support committee passage to take a step toward enacting comprehensive data security legislation.
